Time for a new pattern release! These are the Shimmer Mittens, a quick knit with cushy garter stitch mosaic patterning and sizes for the whole family. I am a huge fan of long striping yarn and I also really love mittens so this project was a perfect match.
These mittens were designed when I was lucky enough to receive some brand new colours of Knitpicks Chroma. Knitting with secret yarn is always fun and it really puts the pressure on to make a great pattern. The Soft Rock colourway is simply beautiful, brimming with subtle hue shifts that really do evoke a sense of earth and rock. It made me think of driving in British Columbia through the Rocky Mountains past the walls of rock that had been blasted out of the mountainside to make room for the roads. It was an interesting colourway to pair a contrast colour with, when it was beside a grey the Chroma looked cold, when it was beside a dark blue it lost the soft grey areas, but finally I decided on Wool of the Andes from Knitpicks in Pumice. This lovely soft brown is a heathered tone that brings out all the lovely shades within the Chroma without overpowering any of them.
These mittens are designed with 5 sizes, which is actually a step down from my usual 8 sizes of mittens but there are two good reasons. First the stitch pattern gauge couldn't be sized the way that St st can and so 5 sizes was the only option. Second these mittens are sooooooo stretchy! The length stretch on them is amazing due to the garter stitch and the slipped stitches ensuring a perfect hand length fit.
These mittens also work up very quickly, a friend of mine knit two pairs over a single weekend!
Now the fun part, you can win a copy of this pattern! Just leave a comment on this blog telling me who you knit mittens for and how often.
I will draw 2 lucky winners using a random number generator on March 28th since it is my Mom's Birthday ( Happy Birthday Mom!) remember to leave a way for me to contact you.
If you can't stand the suspense and would like to purchase ths pattern you can get it on here on Knitpicks or here on Ravelry. Also you can check out more information on my website like measurements and materials here.
