Valentine's Sweater and Hat

Alright perhaps a little late for this year but still knittable for next year, Little NutMeg productions would like to introduce the Valentine's Day Sweater and Hat as our premiere design! Modeled by the ever adorable Norah Pearl.





Valentine’s Sweater and Hat




Yarn: Caron Simply soft , 6 Ounce ball for just the sweater and 7 ounce for sweater and hat



Needles: size 8 /5mm or size for desired gauge



Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch, or 18 stitches in 4 inches



Sweater measures:
Sleeves; 7 inches long, Collar; 11 inches around, Length from collar to hem in front ; 7 inches, and total finished circumference is 19 inches.

CO 46 st



· *K2 , P2* K2 for 4 rows



Continue in Open bobble pattern for 3.5 inches ending on either a row 2 or 4.

Row 1: (right side) Purl row
Row 2: K1, *M3, K3tog* rpt till last stitch K1
Row 3: Purl row
Row 4: K1, *K3tog, M3* rpt till last st K1




Casting on for the sleeves



Cable cast on 32 stitches



· (RS) SL1 st knitwise yarn in back (kw,yib), P2, K2, Purl across newly cast on sleeve and



main body of sweater



Cable cast on additional 32 stitches



· (WS) SL1 purlwise yarn in front (pw,yif), K2, P2, *M3, K3tog* across all stitches until last



5, P2, K2, P1






Open Bobble pattern with sleeve edging



Row 1: SL1 kw, yib, P2, K2, purl to last 5 st, K2, P2, K1
Row 2: SL1 pw yif, K2, P2, *K3tog, M3*to last 5 st, P2, K2, P1
Row 3: Repeat Row 1
Row 4: SL1, pw, yif, K2, P2, *M3, K3tog* to last 5 st, P2, K2, P1




Continue in Open Bobble pattern with sleeve edging for 3.5 inches ending with a row 2 or 4.
Casting off for the neck opening



· SL1 kw, yib, P2, K2, P 40 , Bo 20, P39, K2, P2, K1






Left Sleeve and sweater front



· SL1, pw yif, K2, P2, *M3, K3tog* rpt till end
· Purl till last 5 st, K2, P2, K1
· SL1, pw yif, K2, P2, *K3tog, M3* Cable cast on 14 st
· Sl1 kw yib, P2, K2, purl to last 5, K2, P2, K1
· SL1 pw yif, K2, P2, *M3, K3tog* to last 6st, M3, P2tog, yo, K2, P1 (button hole row)



Work Open Bobble pattern as established with edging on both sides of work for 3 inches or until total sleeve width measures 7 inches across edge. On the 8th row repeat button hole row for second button hole. Refer to Open Bobble Pattern with Sleeve edging if needed.



When sleeve measure seven inches in width , Sl1 st, Bo 32, *M3, K3tog* to last 5 P2, K2, P1



Open bobble pattern with front edging



Row 1: Sl1 kw, yib, P2, K2, purl across all sts
Row 2: K1, *K3tog, M3* to last 5 P2, K2 P1
Row 3: same as row 1
Row 4: K1, *M3, K3tog* to last 5 P2, K2, P1




Continue in pattern for another 3 inches and ending with either a row 2 or 4



· SL1, *P2, K2* P2
· *K2, P2* K2, P1



Repeat these two rows once more and cast off.




Right sleeve and sweater front



Reattach yarn at neckline edge of sleeve



· *M3, K3tog* till last 5 P2, K2 P1
· SL1, P2, K2, purl across rest of stitches, Cable cast on 14 st
· SL1, pw yif, K2, P2, *M3 K3tog* M3 to last 5 P2, K2, P1

Continue in pattern as established working edging on both sides until sleeve measures 7 inches in width.



· SL1, Bo 32, purl to last 5, K2, P2, K1



Work right front in pattern with edging on inner centre opening and one stitch knitted at beginning of each increase/decrease( *K3tog, M3*) row, same as for left front.



After 3 inches and ending with an increase/decrease row switch to * K2, P2* rib for 4 rows, while still maintaining the single slipped stitch at the beginning of the inside centre opening.



Bo off stitches



Sew up sleeves and side openings



Collar



Pick up 56 stitches around collar opening making sure to place one in first slipped stitch of edging, two in following two purl stitches, and two more in following knit stitches (5 st), 46 around rest of collar and 5 more in the edging at the other end of collar, same as first 5 sts indicated above. In this manner the collar should transition visually from the edging.



· Sl1, *K2, P2* K2, P1
· Sl1 *P2, K2* P2, K1



Repeat two rows 5 times for a total of 10 rows. Bo all stitches.



Happy Day! You’ve finished, now go cuddle up your little one in a blanket while you block this sweater !


Hat:



All Gauge, Yarn and needle information is the same as the Valentine’s sweater.



Measurements: 15 inches around and 5.5 inches deep. This hat just covers the ear tips of my baby, if you want it a little longer add two additional rows of ribbing at the beginning.

· K1 *P2, K2*P1, repeat row 4 times
· Repeat following open bobble pattern for 3 inches ending with a purl row or row 1/3

Cut yarn and thread through remaining stitches with tapestry needle, sew up back of hat using mattress stitch.
