The Abigail Gauntlets were designed for my 5-year-old daughter Abigail. Always one for girly lace and fancy things, she felt that her winter wardrobe, despite being warm, was simply not fashionable enough to justify wearing. These mittens combine the warmth of traditional wool mittens with a lace outer cuff and variegated yarn. A ribbed inner cuff hugs the wrist inside the coat sleeve and keeps out the draft, while the bell shaped outer cuff is visible on the outside of the sleeve. The Abigail Gauntlets are perfect fashion for fancy girls big and small.

20 sts/26 rows = 4” square in stockinette stitch with gauge needles
PATTERN NOTES
These mittens are worked in two parts. First the inner ribbing cuff is worked on needles one size smaller than gauge and live stitches are left on the needles while the outer cuff is worked on the gauge needles. When both are complete, the inner cuff is set inside the outer and the stitches are knit together into a strong-yet-flexible seam. The remainder of the mitten is worked on one set of DPNs with a traditional gusset thumb and spiral decreases.
