Geometric lines of stranded colorwork patterning are crossed over each other creating a confluence of pattern, texture, color and shaping in the yoke of the Ferndale Pullover. The plain stockinette body and simple faced hems are the perfect complement to the unusual and stunning yoke.

For this pattern I wanted to contrast the detailed yoke pattern with a plain main body and hints of contrast color in a folded and seamed hem. I was thinking about the deep woods of the temperate rainforest when I designed this pullover. We visited the Olympic Peninsula a few years ago as a family and the depth of the vegetation within the forests there is staggering. This stitch pattern is inspired by the movement of the shadows on the forest floor, deep blue with hints of green that flow over and around each other in that strange organic geometry of nature.

Pattern Notes
This pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up, the hems are worked with a contrast color facing knit on smaller needles with a purl turning rnd. It is best to seam this facing instead of knitting it into the main body as seaming creates a hem that lies flatter and is less visible. The main body and sleeves are joined after the underarm shaping bind off and short rows are worked to raise the back of the sweater.

It may be necessary to work the stranded patterning with one size larger needle than the main body if the stranded work pulls in.
