The Ostrich Race

  • Sale

Before I was born, my mother rode an ostrich and my father was too afraid. This was a surprisingly formative part of my childhood as it leant a permanent shape to my vision of the exotic, bravery and gender. Since Mrs. Crosby is a world-wide traveler, I imagine she must have sat in a victorian-era hotel somewhere in South Africa watching an ostrich race through her sitting room window. Intrigued by the possibility of adding another accomplishment to her long list of experiences, she takes up the reins herself. Shawl fluttering in the breeze in the very same shade as the plumed bird she rides, the winner’s wreath is hers for the taking.

PATTERN NOTES
The length of this shawl is cast on and worked all in one piece from the bottom up. Shaping is worked by binding off two full pattern repeats worth of stitches. It is very important to use the recommended cast on and bind off to ensure a stretchy edge for blocking.
