Worked from the bottom up this textured cocoon style shrug has a wide front border of textured Adventure Cables and short row dolman sleeves. The back neck has a narrow band of seed stitches seamed at the top of the point and a border of seed stitches up the top of the sleeves and at the hem.

I wanted to really play with seed stitch texture for this shrug, and using the purl stitch as a graphic texture in the ‘V’ shapes as well as moving knit stitches over seed stitches for a subtly textured cable pattern. So many times we see cables as a really strong graphic image but in this stitch pattern I wanted the cables to enhance the texture and create surface interest versus steal the show. For me this pattern will always remind me of evergreen trees, the subtle shifting textures and patterns of needles overlapped creating a single tree of many individual branches.

Pattern Notes
This shrug is worked from the bottom up with dolman style sleeves cast on and worked at the same time as the main body. The tops of the sleeves and the shoulders are shaped with short rows and the final few rows at the top of the sleeves are worked with seed stitch. Seaming the top and bottom edges of the sleeves is recommended for stability in the garment. The Adventure Cables patterning in this chart uses knit stitches and purl stitches, continuing the seed stitch pattern during the cable crossings.
